Veterinarians Liability

Veterinarians Liability Insurance is a combined professional indemnity and public and products liability product, specifically designed for veterinarians.

Veterinary malpractice occurs when a veterinarian causes harm to an animal due to incompetence, errors in judgment, or lack of care. It is crucial to note that lack of improvement in an animal's condition does not necessarily indicate malpractice. To succeed in a malpractice lawsuit against a veterinarian, clients must establish four key points:

  • Their animal was under the formal care of the veterinarian.

  • The veterinarian breached professional care standards.

  • The animal suffered death, injury, or worsening of its condition due to inadequate care by the veterinarian.

  • The animal's owner incurred financial or emotional losses, referred to as "damages," as a result of the veterinarian's actions.

While many errors do not result in legal action, some can lead to significant financial losses and emotional distress for animal owners, prompting them to seek legal recourse. Common claims that may be brought against veterinarians include negligence, causing emotional distress, failure to fulfill duties as a bailee, breach of contract with a pet owner, engaging in deceptive practices, and claims for economic losses stemming from the animal's death or impairment.

Malpractice cases in veterinary medicine can involve multiple allegations, increasing their complexity, attorney fees, and potential judgments. Being a veterinarian carries substantial risks, as mistakes can lead to costly malpractice claims that persist throughout the workday. So it is worthwhile to consider having a quality veterinarians liability product in place to protect one of your most valuable assets: your veterinary practice.
