antipodean
[an-tip-uh-dee-uhn] / ænˌtɪp əˈdi ən
Adjective
1. of, relating to, or originating from places on the opposite side of the globe, especially Australia and New Zealand;
2. directly or diametrically opposite; antipodal.
The word Antipodean derives from the Greek word antipodēs reflecting the ancient Greek concept of a spherical Earth inhabited on all sides, where people on the opposite side stood with their feet pointing toward ours through the center of the globe. In Plato’s Timaeus, he refers to people standing at points opposite one another on the spherical Earth. He says:
"A person who “goes round the world” might stand at the antipodes of his original position."
This passage shows that Greek philosophers not only understood the Earth as spherical, but also recognised that opposite points existed on its surface. The term was later absorbed into Latin as antipodes, and then into medieval French and Middle English.
In founding Antipodean Underwriting, we wanted to create a uniquely local underwriting agency. We are 100% Australian owned by mum and dad investors, employees and management. We've created the type of underwriter that we would want to buy a policy from.

We are completely independent of the major insurers and broking groups. We are employee owned and employees are incentivised through equity, so the people you speak with are accountable for their actions.

We are Australian owned, so any profits earned stay in Australia and are not syphoned off to a foreign corporation.
