About the Role

The primary purpose of this role is to handle claims on policies that have been underwritten by Antipodean Underwriting. 


This includes (but is not limited to) tasks such as entering new claim data into claims  and various other systems required to track claimss, reviewing policy documents, handling broker, accounting or policies queries and working with underwriters to review renewal and new business submissions.


Your Responsibilities


Your responsibilities in the role, will include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • To handle a high volume workload of claims

  • To conduct coverage inquiries and make determinations as to indemnity

  • To notify brokers of indemnity decisions

  • To appoint external service providers, including lawyers to represent policyholders

  • To liaise with brokers to resolve queries regarding claims and to ensure these are registered in a timely manner 

  • To prepare claims files for both Renewal and New Business (including inputting data into the Claims system)

  • To liaise with brokers and internal departments for credit control, claims and risk information 

  • Chasing brokers for outstanding binding instructions or other information that is required to make an indemnity decision

  • To review of policy documents produced by the Underwriting Team

  • Creation of ad hoc documents

  • To assist with the reconciliation of aged finance items 

  • Ensure claims files are complete and fulfil audit requirments

  • To ensure policy tracking/workflow tools are accurate and reflect current status of policy at all times 

  • Any other ad hoc duties allocated by the Claims Team 

Quality Adherence 

  • Build good working relationships with local underwriting teams and ensure that the Underwriting Team are regularly communicated with and kept updated on appropriate issues 

  • Build good working relationships with third party providers, lawyers and external stakeholders

  • Proactively monitor and support the completion of outsourced processes, ensuring agreed service standards and quality levels are met 

  • To support the Underwriting Team through liaison with and participation at meetings with brokers, internal departments and external advisers 

  • To provide general assistance to underwriters for broker and/or client visits and other administrative duties as agreed with the Underwriting Team

  • To independently handle requests and queries from customers where appropriate coordinate with appropriate departments and staff to resolve first level customer complaints 

  • To adhere to robust Quality Framework standards and procedures 

  • To ensure that the business meets its customer service standards under the General Insurance Industry Code of Practice

Requirements

The following Selection Criteria must be addressed in your covering letter.


Your Skills & Experience:

  • High School Certificate

  • Law degree or equivalent

  • Competentcy in Microsoft Office and Outlook

  • Excellent general computer literacy

  • Typing speed of at least 35 words per minute

  • Punctuality

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills both in verbal and written forms

  • Strong customer service skills and customer centric attitude

  • Strong attention to detail and the desire to deliver and improve quality

  • Problem resolution and decision making skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as on own initiative

  • Experience working to deadlines

  • Pro-active involvement with business objectives & service level

  • A collegial and constructive approach to working with and supporting colleagues within a team environment

  • Well-developed analytical and organisational skills

Desirable:

  • Diploma of Financial Servies

  • Experience working in a Claims Role at another insurer or underwriting agency

  • Experience practicing law
